We have invested over $7.6 million in pancreatic cancer research at some of Australia's top research institutions.

We have invested over $7.6 million in pancreatic cancer research at some of Australia's top research institutions.

PanKind funds research across four priority areas. Our Scientific Advisory Panel is made up of nationally and internationally renowned scientists and clinicians and plays a critical role in the assessment of potential research projects.

Strategic research:

Our strategic projects help to build the capacity of Australian pancreatic cancer research and provided the platform for additive research projects and high-quality publications. Initiatives include:

Australian Pancreatic Cancer Genome Initiative

Funded from 2011 - 2013. The Australian Pancreatic Cancer Genome Initiative (APGI) is a member of the International Genome Consortium (ICGC), a worldwide collaborative effort to comprehensively catalogue the genomic and epigenomic abnormalities in over 50 major human cancers. The APGI brings together the expertise of pancreatic cancer scientists and healthcare professionals across Australia and is dedicated to improving outcomes for pancreatic patients and their families.

PAN1 clinical trial

Funded from 2010 - 2012. An Australia-wide multi-centre cancer clinical trial funded by PanKind. The project looked at taking an innovative approach to research into understanding pancreatic cancer and individualising patient treatment. This trial is now closed.

PhD Scholarship

Jeremy Humphris, Gastroenterologist and PhD student is the recipient of the first PanKind scholarship.

Competitive grants:

Our grants program has previously funded in two main categories – Innovation and Accelerator grants.

Grant recipients are selected through a competitive, formal grant process, reviewed by our Scientific Advisory Panel. Previous recipients have generated high impact publications that have significantly increased our understanding of pancreatic cancer.
